Welcome to our sacred gathering on this Summer Solstice, beloved sisters, brothers, and those who reside between.
The sun illuminates the energy within us all. Today, we embrace our inner power and wisdom, guided by self-acceptance and liberation. We embody both feminine and masculine. We honor the empowered and support each other. All are welcome here.
[Point North] We call on Earth to support us. In this sacred space, we honor Earth's strength and abundance. May it guide our patience and endurance.
[Point East] We invoke Air, the invisible force that shares secrets and lifts our intentions. Its soft breeze brings wisdom and transformation. Grant us clarity, trust in intuition, and guidance on our path.
[Point South] We embrace Fire, which symbolizes passion and transformation. We ignite our inner spark to replace doubt and fear with courage and renewal.
[Point West] We welcome Water, known for its healing. Sustaining life influences emotions and molds our landscape. May we find compassion for ourselves and extend that spirit to others.
We honor our Spirit, seeking guidance from our ancestors. We sense their presence in changing winds, reminding us of their watchfulness. Grant us the wisdom to carry their legacy, valuing the energy connecting us all.
Friends, sisters, brothers, kindred spirits, as the wheel of the year turns and we gather under the bountiful light of the Summer Solstice, we open this sacred space with an invocation of a potent and often misunderstood power: that of Medusa. [Warcry from the crowd]
Medusa, born mortal to ancient sea deities, was renowned for her breathtaking beauty and radiant hair. A devoted priestess in the temple of Athena, she lived a life of chastity, peace, and spiritual purpose. But her tranquility was shattered when Poseidon, the mighty god of the sea, assaulted her within the very sanctuary of Athena's temple. In a cruel twist of fate, it was not Poseidon who faced divine retribution, but Medusa herself. Athena, in a devastating act of injustice, punished Medusa. Her beautiful hair was transformed into writhing snakes, and her gaze, once so lovely, became a weapon, turning all who met it to stone. Medusa, the once-beautiful priestess, was cast out, condemned to live as a monster, an outcast, perpetually hunted.
The betrayal continued. The gods, in their callous disregard, played a direct hand in her eventual murder. Perseus, armed with divine gifts and guided by Athena, sought her out, not for justice, but for her head. Her death, therefore, was not merely a hero's triumph, but the tragic culmination of a divine conspiracy against a woman who had been wronged.
There are those who see Perseus as the hero, slaying a monster. Then some see Medusa as a victim of man's hatred. Medusa's story is one that many can identify with, because we have either been villainized or turned into a monster. And for what purpose? For too long, accountability has not been held for those who commit wrongdoings.
Medusa's story is not just an ancient myth; it is a piercing reflection of the experiences of modern women. How often do women today, when we speak our truth, expose injustice, or stand up for ourselves, similarly get branded as "monsters"? How often is a woman's pain, her rage, her righteous anger, twisted and used to silence her, to turn her into an object of fear or derision? When a woman dares to speak out against abuse, inequality, or systemic oppression, she risks being ostracized, disbelieved, and demonized – her voice, her power, her very essence, "turned to stone" by a society unwilling to hear her truth.
While there are many conflicting ideas about who instigated what and whose stance was more devoted, I implore you to reflect deeply on why you view these figures as you do. Be it a monster, a victim, a harlot, a betrayer, or simply a woman.
Today, you were drawn here for a purpose. In these times of uncertainty and division, the yearning for connection and community has never been stronger. Some are new, and many have returned to us, seeking solace, strength, and belonging. As the goddess called out to bring you together, we hold this sacred space and offer our deepest gratitude and reverence to the goddess Medusa.
Today, we come together. Take what anger and hatred you may hold within yourself and cast it aside. We come together to teach you what empowering ourselves and one another means. Hold space for yourselves and each other. Know that each one of us has a story. And yes, there will always be three sides to every story… His… Hers… and the truth… Today, we hold grace.
Today, we reclaim Medusa's power. For many years, the gorgon was seen as a symbol of protection. We honor her as a symbol of self-defense, a reminder of our truth, a presence that takes up space, and the love and protection we hold for ourselves and those we cherish. Medusa, often misunderstood and vilified, embodies the untamed power of the feminine. She is a fierce protector of her boundaries. Her story reflects the societal pressures and the silencing of women who dare to defy expectations. She is a reminder that even in profound suffering, there is a power that can be reclaimed.
We openly embrace those new here with softness and healing. We offer a haven where voices can be heard, wounds can begin to mend, and the power of community can uplift us all.
Together, let us honor the Divine Feminine within us, embody the grace of the goddess, and celebrate the interconnectedness of all beings.
So mote it be.

Closing Ceremony
As the sun begins its descent, we gather our energy and prepare to return to the world, carrying the wisdom and power we've cultivated within this sacred space. Memories were shared, voices were lifted, and connections were forged.
We give thanks to the elements that held us today:
Earth, for grounding us and providing unwavering support.
Air, for carrying our intentions and whispers on the wind.
Fire, for igniting our passions and burning away fear.
Water, for cleansing and nourishing us, flows through us with grace.
We remember Medusa, the fierce guardian, and we carry her spirit with us. We stand in our power, honoring our boundaries and protecting those we love. We may not have snakes in our hair, but we hold the serpent's power within us.
As you return to the world, remember this mantra. Please repeat after me:
I reclaim my power.
I reclaim my truth.
I reclaim my heart.
I am strong.
I am worthy.
I am love.
I let go of judgment.
I let go of what doesn't serve me.
I let go of what hurt me.
I choose healing.
I choose forgiveness.
I choose peace.
[Pause]
With gratitude and reverence, we release this sacred space.
May the blessings of this day shine upon us throughout the year.
So mote it be.
